Most firms of 50-200 people have infrastructure that grew rather than infrastructure that was designed. Owning the domain replaces accumulation with intent.

Everyone says adopt AI. Very little of that advice mentions the estate it has to run on. Copilot, agents and every AI feature a vendor ships inherit the infrastructure underneath them: the identities, the access, the tenant, the capacity. Ungoverned, those gaps become AI gaps on day one.

  • Identity and access, assessed. Who and what can sign in, from where, with which permissions. Any AI tool you switch on inherits every one of those answers.
  • The tenancy, made ready. The tenant AI will live in: configuration, conditional access, service accounts and the boundaries between them, reviewed before anything is switched on.
  • Capacity and placement, planned. Where AI workloads run, what they are allowed to touch, and what they add to the bill, decided in writing rather than discovered later.

Do you replace our MSP or run the infrastructure yourselves?

You keep the MSP if it works. We set the architecture, the standards and the plan, and we govern the delivery. If the MSP is the problem, we say so at diagnose.

We are already in the cloud. Is there anything left to own?

Usually, yes. Estates drift: part-migrated workloads, servers nobody will switch off, architecture decisions made by whoever was in the room. Owning the domain means the map is current, the rationale is written down, and the next change is planned.

Have you actually done large migrations, or only governed them?

Both. 250+ servers migrated to Azure, in the estate, by the named senior who does this work. Governance is better when the person setting the standard has done the moves.

Should we be on-premise, in the cloud, or both?

It depends on cost, risk and the work your firm actually does. Cloud-first suits most firms of 50-200 people, and some workloads still earn their place on-premise. Either way it is a decision, made once, with the rationale on paper before anything moves.
